 Yesterday at Hornby High School we had our very own market day! This took us 4 weeks to plan this all, We had many tasks to do for our business to be a useful one. Some of our tasks were financial reports or if we needed more money we would have to persuade the teacher. we did a sausage sizzle and we made heaps of money

How people were affected by the Christchurch Earthquake

Matariki

Kia Ora

I am researching and learning about Matariki. Matariki is all about Celebrating the Maori new year and spending time with family and friends. When Matariki arrives in New Zealand you will see 7 stars in the sky which symbolises the Maori new year. The stars Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waitī, Waitā, Waipunā-ā-rangi and Ururangi.

Freeze Frame-Thought Tracking

In Hurumanu today we were learning about freeze frames and thought tracking.

First of all we read a story then we all had turns of creating a freeze frame form one scene. Then Mrs Clark Filmed us and asked us what our thoughts were in that scene.

We learnt that the population in the late 1830s was 80,000.  

The two main reasons for the drop in population was because of war and diseases.

The name of the main settlement in New Zealand at the the time was Russel/Koroaraka.

The missionaries were unhappy with what was happening in the town at the time was because of the alcohol. 

The Te Tiriti o Waitangi was neglected because everyone was lighting the British towns on fire.

So one way is to check if the URL looks a bit off and other way with the URL is to check if there is a green lock at the start of the URL. If you get an email saying dear friend or anything that is not your name and is asking for you bank details or phone number it will look a bit risky and if they were you friend they would see you in person. So my advice is to stay safe online.

Today in maths we have been learning about division. we got taught a new way so we have different ways and faster ways

Zones of regulation

So yesterday we did an activity about zones of regulation an the activity was that I had to write about what people would feel around me if I was in the zone and what would they think and say and the zones are green, yellow, blue, red if you are in the green. zone you would be focused or happy if you are in the blue zone you will be felling sad or bored or sick or tried if you are in the yellow zone you will be feeling worried or frustrated and if you are in the red zone you will be feeling angry or out of control.

Fasis eggs

Today in math strand we learned about graphs and we got given an activity called nest eggs the activity was about a framer. Who hens layed a certain amount of eggs then we had to draw a graph to show how many eggs did the hens lay. After we drew the graph we had to find out what day did the hens lay the most amount of eggs. Then it said in the summer the hens layed twice of many eggs as in the winter so all we had to do was just double. Then for the final question we had to find to answer to both graphs.

Different learning websites

We got a challenge that we can't use google Presentations because its old news. I will be showing you Sumo paint. Sumo paint is a website where you can draw do, art and more! this is a really good site and I have been using it we had a challenge on it too! we had to make a scene in outer space and the winners got a lollipop (I didn't win) You should try it! :D This is better than google drawing because Because you get the option to do free hand drawing other than boring shapes! The seven stars of Matariki-Maths

We looked at a photo of the 7 stars of Matariki. We talked about polygons. Polygons are shapes. We had to use the position of the stars to create different shapes. The most simple polygon was the triangle. The most complex or difficult polygon was the star.

30 minute story

Today we had to make a thirty minute story so me and my buddy Logan made one about a drift skin hacker noob story so here it is

Making rafts

Today me and my buddy had to make a raft that could hold 40 grams first we designed the raft in our project books and we come up with that the raft had 18 straws in the middle and a straw on the outside. then we had show the teacher our design then she gave a the the straws and tape next we our raft and then we had to put the raft on water and for a second I thought i was going to sink but it didn't.

The Ronald McDonald Slaughter

It all started in texas there was a family of 4 Mum-Jacinda, Dad/ Dave, Brother/
Tim and sister/ Lucy. They were on their way to mcdonalds to get a
feed and
when they got there Lucy and Tim wanted to go on the playground
but it was
closed and it was dark. The shapes of the playground were just looming
out of the pitch black scene. So they went on the other
side of the
playground where no one was allowed. It was pitch black as
they went
over but the could see a little light just out in the distance Tim
whispered
let’s go check this out so as they creeped over they heard
“Ronald HA!
R.R.R.ONALD” As they were still creeping over the light
started to get
dimmer and dimmer in the dark mist and the sound of
the scrunching
sound of the fake grass.

The Ronald sound started to get louder and louder
But as they got to the mysterious light. They saw ronald Mcdonald
covered in blood and marks all over his face and body and blood
oozing out of him and everywhere so they R A N for their life. As they
climbed back over the barrier it was pitch black every where mum and
dad weren't there but in their perspective they were there. So Tim and Lucy sprinted out side and they saw the same bloody ronald with marks
and they ran back in the bathroom and locked it shut.

Then they heard “SAY RONALD THREE TIMES over and over they were
also covering their ears but time got caught out and stood up and said “ ronald
RONALD RONALD” And the same ronald as before came out the window and
chased the out into the playground. All the light were turned on and
there was
kids and Tim ran up the slide and got pull with a knife down it and his neck
was slit and blood everywhere and lucy got her leg cut of with the mgf
chainsaw. The kids where saying “KILL KILL KILL” like they were on
ronalds team and the ronald got his tongue pulled out so it was dangling
down his neck with blood stains on his shirt. Then a waiter came in and
said “1 big mac two fries and a coke” and ronald mcdonald say “ shut the hell
up” And the ronald mcdonald pulled out his  and threw it and cut off the waiters
head with blood coming out of the neck.Then Ronald mcdonald got an axe and
tortured and killed every parent and half of the kids in the mcdonalds store Then
there was no more people standing and said” hahaha im the winner you all suck
” Then andrew lincoln came in and killed ronald and said oh hell no I come from
the walking dead no one can kill me *SHOTS*

Coordinates

In Maths we are learning about coordinates. We learnt that you say the letter first and then the number. Our map was about the story ¨Little red riding hood¨. We had to do 2 things. First we had to say the coordinates of little icons of where they were. Second we had to Draw the coordinates of little icons where the sheet told us too.

Novel Blog Post

Monopillar - author Alan Horsfield

We are learning to use our activity sheets! I'll get to that later.
There are 5 characters. They are Monopillar, Jason, and the three in white.
 I think it is really good (but that's my opinion). It is totally cool and the plot twist at the end is really surprising !
 Jason, a boy who likes power house museums, went to one with his Mum. He found something weird, he only believes his story, not the story about the yetis.
We used "activity sheets"  they help us understand the character because we can just write in them and look back at them and see what they are like. My Favourite part of the story is at the end because of the plot twist . I'm not going to say what the plot twist is.
I do recommend this book if you like SCI-FI!
